Governor Asa Hutchinson. Lance Turner, Arkansas Business
Tucker interviewed Former Arksansa Governor and Republican Presidential Candidate Asa Hutchinson today at the FAMiLY Leadership Summit in Iowa.
The interview started off with Tucker pressing Hutchinson on his veto of an anti-puberty blocker bill for children while governor.
Hutchinson claimed that there is a limit to what parents should be able to do when it comes to gender reassignment surgery but that he vetoed the bill because the bill went too far. He also claimed that he vetoed the bill because he supports the rights of the parents and that the violated their rights and the constitution.
When Hutchinson voted the bill he made similar remarks.
“This is a government overreach,” he said at the news conference after vetoing the bill. “You are starting to let lawmakers interfere with health care and set a standard for legislation overriding health care. The state should not presume to jump into every ethical health decision.”
Tucker kept pressing Hutchinson on the issue, forcing Asa to snap at Tucker and say “I hope we can talk about some issues”.
Tucker responded with “This is one of the biggest issues in the country. It is a central issue. These are children who are being altered permanently.”
