Donald Trump denounced Special Counsel Prosecutor Jack Smith on Thursday evening, after being given January 2nd 2024 as the start date for his trial into his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Trump slammed Smith after being told that the start of the trial is scheduled to appear in court, accusing Smith of “election interference” two weeks before the Presidential primaries kick off in Iowa on January 15th.
“Deranged Jack Smith has just asked for a trial on the Biden Indictment to take place on January 2nd., just ahead of the important Iowa Caucuses,” the current GOP front-runner wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Thursday evening.
“Only an out of touch lunatic would ask for such a date, ONE DAY into the New Year, and maximum Election Interference with IOWA!” Trump said.
“Such a trial, which should never take place due to my First Amendment Rights, and massive BIDEN CORRUPTION, should only happen, if at all, AFTER THE ELECTION,” Trump continued on Truth Social. “The same with other Fake Biden Indictments. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!
Smith has vowed that his office will seek a “speedy trial” after Trump was indicted and arraigned in a third case this year. Smith’s proposed time frame, according to The Washington Examiner, is for motions to be filed by September 25th by both parties, the hearings would start no later than November 13th and go to early December, and the proposed jury selection would start December 11th if the U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan approves of the proposed scheduled.
Trump was indicted for a third time earlier this month.
