Special Counsel Jack Smith, who indicted Trump for a second time last week, is reportedly investigating the 2024 GOP frontrunner’s Save America PAC.
On Monday, investigators questioned Bernark Kerik, a longtime ally of Rudy Guiliani, about Trump’s Save America PAC’s enormous fundraising haul in the week between Election Day and the January 6th 2021 Capitol riot, Politico has reported.
Giuliani was one of six alleged co-conspirators that have been idientified during the latest indictment of President Trump, although no charges have been made yet.
“It’s a laser focus from Election Day to Jan. 6,” Tim Paraltore, Bernark Kerik’s attorney, told Politico.
Federal prosecutors appear to be interested in the formation of the PAC and its spending practices, ABC News has reported, perhaps whether or not those associated with the PAC promoted claims of election fraud.
Save America raised $135.2 million from its inception to June 30, 2022, according to FEC data.
Most of the money – around $84.3 million – came from the Trump Make America Great Again Committee, a fundraising apparatus that led the email campaign.
As of the last FEC filing deadline, Save America raised $103.7 million from Jan. 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022. The fund presently has $103.1 million cash on hand.
The Save America PAC has reportedly spent less than a third of the money raised and has tens of millions of dollars remaining.
After the FBI raided Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate last month, Save America PAC sent out a fundraising email in which Trump urged supporters to “rush in a donation IMMEDIATELY to publicly stand with me against this NEVERENDING WITCH HUNT.”
