There has been a lot of misinformation and just outright lies about President Trump’s response to the Coronavirus and him cutting the CDC. Those claims are absolutely not true and anyone who has cared to do any research, besides parroting what networks such as MSNBC report, would know that it isn’t true.
Yes, Trump did “propose” cuts to the CDC. We can argue whether those “proposed” cuts were good or bad, but that’s not really the issue here. The issue here is the claim that he gutted the CDC and that is why we aren’t prepared for the Coronavirus. He did not gut the CDC. He did not cut funding to the CDC. He “proposed” a cut in funding to the CDC, a “proposed” cut which never happened. Congress never followed through with those proposed cuts. In fact, they increased the CDC budget. Funny, I don’t remember seeing that anywhere. I had to go looking for that info because it was ignored by the mainstream media.
Despite the cuts never actually happening, you have people like Mike Bloomberg claiming “There’s nobody here to figure out what the hell we should be doing. And he’s defunded – he’s defunded Centers for Disease Control, CDC, so we don’t have the organization that we need. This is a very serious thing.” Then we have Joe Biden claiming “We increased the budget of the CDC (under Obama). We increased the NIH budget…He’s (Trump) wiped all that out…He cut the funding for the entire effort.”
I’m just curious. Are Bloomberg, Biden and a majority of those in the media intentionally lying or are they just completely clueless? Does anyone in the media actually care to check the facts before reporting this nonsense?
Let’s even go a step farther and compare Trump’s response to Obama’s response during the Swine Flu, because you aren’t going to see that anywhere either. I know, I know. Trump is so incompetent and Obama was this great President. Everything was perfect under Obama, well except that he waited until nearly 1,000 people had Swine Flu before declaring a national emergency and calling for $1.5 billion in funding to fight it. Then we have Trump, who immediately called for $2.5 billion, after a few dozen cases were detected in the US. So Trump responded quicker then Obama (nearly 1,000 cases sooner) and called for $1 billion more then Obama did after the Swine flu outbreak. I don’t remember hearing that anywhere, have you?
Finally, we have President Trump’s response to the coronavirus and his claim that everything is under control. I’m not really sure what the response was that the Democrats were looking for. Would it have been better if he would have come out and panicked people? No, that wouldn’t have been good either because then we would have been hearing constantly that that wasn’t Presidential and that he is needlessly causing American’s to panic.
No matter what Trump would have said or done, it wouldn’t have been good enough for half of the country because they have determined from the start that no matter what he does, he’s wrong. He “proposes” cuts to the CDC, and that’s a crisis. He calls for more money then Obama did to fight this virus, and that’s not enough. He responded quicker then Obama did, but that’s good enough. He doesn’t want to panic people, but then he’s called a liar. If he would have caused people to panic, then he’s not being presidential. There is absolutely no way for him to please a group of people that have determined from day one that “orange man bad” so orange man can do no good.
Everyone that knows me knows that I have been far from one of Trump’s biggest supporters. I have criticized him on a wide range of topics. And there is fair criticism. He’s human after all so he’s not perfect. But this is ridiculous.
At what point is it time to let the fact that you had a horrible candidate in 2016 go. At what point is it time to admit that your candidate sucked and that is why you lost the last election and move on. Can we not at least come together on something as horrible as this Coronavirus?
I can’t imagine what this country is going to look like if there really is a breakout here. We are already destroying ourselves and time’s are pretty good. What happens if what the CDC is predicting comes true, and there really are severe shortages? What happens when people start to panic? You need to be the one whose prepared and the one that doesn’t panic with the rest of society.
