Today marks 20 years since the worst attack on American soil. An attack that took the lives of 3,000 Americans. A day that anyone who is my age and older will never forget. A day that we will always remember exactly where we were and what we were doing.
But let us never forget what came next. 9/12. A day when it didn’t matter what our differences were, we were all Americans first. I pray that we are able to return to that American spirit before it’s too late.
And let us never forget the heroes of that day. The heroes who sacrificed everything and ran into the burning buildings to rescue people they didn’t even know and the heroes aboard flight 93 who took back the plane and prevented the deaths of countless others.
“Now, we have inscribed a new memory alongside those others. It’s a memory of tragedy and shock, of loss and mourning. But not only of loss and mourning. It’s also a memory of bravery and self-sacrifice, and the love that lays down it’s life for a friend – even a friend whose name it never knew.” -President George W. Bush
