Last week Donald Trump accused the FBI of taking three passports during their raid on Mar-a-Lago. Of course this was just another one of Trump’s lies according to the Left. CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell claimed that according to an FBI agent, they did not have Trump’s passports.
Within hours we found out that they did indeed take Trump’s passports but will be returning them.
According to John Solomon from Just the News, he has two sources that are claiming that the FBI and DOJ both believe that the FBI over-collected evidence when it was at Mar-a-Lago, meaning it collected evidence not covered by the search warrant,” John Solomon, editor-in-chief of Just The News, said on “Hannity”.
“I have confirmed from two different sources that the Justice Department called President Trump’s defense lawyers today confirming that they did take his three passports,” Solomon said. “They are making arrangements to send it back saying they are obligated to return it it’s outside the scope of the subpoena. They have also informed Trump defense lawyers, the Justice Department has, over the last few days that there’s likely privileged materials that the FBI collected that now have to be segregated and returned to the president.”
“Those privileges could be attorney-client privilege or more likely, executive privilege,” he added. “Now this is remarkable. I talked to a lot have FBI people today who told me this warrant was already remarkably broad, can basically go in and get anything that looked like a presidential record, to then collect something like a passport which most agents can recognize quickly, or privileged documents, raised concerns amongst career FBI officials.”
I said immediately after the raid that this appears to just be a fishing expedition and a desperate attempt by the FBI to find something that they could use to prevent Trump from running in 2024. I suspected early on that they likely had a general warrant, which was confirmed by the text of the actual warrant once that was released.
Trump had been cooperating with the FBI before the raid over these “stolen” documents. Just two months before the raid they demanded that an extra lock be put on the safe, which Trump complied with. So what changed in those two months? The affidavit would give us more answers on what led to the raid, but they are refusing to release that.
