Shortly after taking office the Biden administration halted all new construction of the border wall project that was started by the Trump administration. But on Thursday the Biden administration announced that they will be filling in some gaps in the border wall near Yuma, Arizona.
This is the wall that Joe Biden previously claimed was being used by the Trump administration as a “racist invective to describe anyone south of the Rio Grande.”
Biden claimed in that 2019 op-ed “It won’t stop the flow of illegal narcotics or human trafficking, both of which come primarily through legal ports of entry,” he continued. “Nor will it stop asylum seekers fleeing the most desperate conditions imaginable, and who have the right to have their cases heard. Nor will it stem the numbers of undocumented, most of whom over-stay legal visas.”
Biden claimed that Trump’s decision to build the wall was “divorced from reality” and that not “another foot of wall” would be constructed by his administration.
On Friday Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy questioned White House Press Secretary Jean-Pierre about the reversal in Biden’s policy at the daily White House press briefing. Of course she placed the blame on the Trump administration and insisted that “We are not finishing the wall. We are cleaning up the mess the prior administration left behind in their failed attempt to build a wall,” Jean-Pierre said.
On Thursday DHS explained that the Biden administration is finishing the border wall in the Yuma sector to “address operational impacts, as well as immediate life and safety risks.” In other words, the border is so out of control because of the actions of this administration (or lack thereof) that they now have no choice but to look like they are at least trying to do something.
